| How many of you ere a Boy Scout or Girl Guide and what did it mean to you? | | Guiding and Scouting has been a big part of my life.
As a young girl I was a Brownie and then a Girl Guide - I gained the Queen's Guide award and was actually presented to the Queen.
Through my guiding I learnt a lot that has been very useful to me during my life.My father was very active in the scout movement and it was through scouting that I met my (now) husband.
I have been Brown Owl, my husband has been Scout Leader and Group Scout Leader and we have had a lot of fun over the years.I would love to know of other people's scouting or guiding experiences.
| | Were you a girl scout or a boy scout? | | I remember being in girl scouts, and having a lot of fun. I would make crafts, go camping, and sell girl scout cookies. Yet making new friends was the best part! I remember one girl scout meeting, we made christmas ornaments with beads and all sort of thingys, and gave them to out parents. I remember going camping for 2 weeks for girl scouts, too. We got live in a tent, cook our food, and try many new things like bug juice and rafting. Girls scouts is almost like a big sister program, for the girls and moms support each other and share ideas and experiences. I even remember the ceremony to becoming a girl scout. I was dressed all in my Brownie uniform, and walked over a fake bridge in an auditoriun to get my sash and cap. It was so cool! I wonder what the girl scouts are up to today that I had in my group from then, and if the girl scout community has changed a whole lot. | |

| Were you a Girl or Boy Scout? | | I was just having this discussion about when we were kids... I was asked if I were ever in the Girl Scouts. Yes, I was a,d I loved it. I started as a Brownie, I still have my square Brownie camera and my brown beenie that we used to wear. I unfortunately was only in the Girl Scouts for 2 years as my Mom never drove and my friend that used to take me there decided not to go any more.
Being a Girl Scout taught me to be more proud of myself and gave me confidence. I also learned many things and made lots of friends. I remember a camping trip we went on and met other scouts from different states. I loved sitting around the fire and telling stories and making my first ever smore and hobo pies.
Were you ever a Scout and what memories do you have? Are your kids in the Scouts?

| Found Boy Scout... | | Thank goodness that little boy was found. I was beginning to wonder if he would be found alive or not. I always hate to see the stories of people lost like that especially children. They must be so scared and wonder if anyone is looking for them. I was very relieved today to hear of him being located..What would we do without those volunteers and search teams?? | |

| Tornado ripped through Boy Scout camp killing 4 | | This is such a tragic thing that everyone here is still numb thinking about. You can read the story at http://www.ketv.com/news/16579276/detail.html Two 13 year old boys and two 14 year old boys were killed in the tornado. They were at the camp for a leadership conference. We had 12 tornados with one going through the boy scout camp. I cried as I listened to some of the boys recount the experience on our local news. Some of the boys set to work assisting those that were injured before any response team was able to get out there. These young boys have been called heros as there could have been more deaths had they not acted quickly to assist their fellow boyscouts. One boy even told about how they were in the building and their leader told them to get under the tables. He watched as the leader went to shut the door and was sucked up by the tornado. Then the young boy himself felt it flip him over and start pulling him in. He yelled for help and another scout grabbed his hand and told him it was going to be ok and held onto him until it passed. Parents heard of the tornado on the news and they rushed to the site to find their children but couldn't get in there right away so they all... | |
| | Boy Scout saves the President | | This sounds like a script from one of those kids or Disney kind of movie but this one is for real. The boy caught a knife thrown at the President of The Maldives and hurt himself for doing that. The assailant "aimed at the president from about 10 feet away, but another young boy -- about 15 years old -- maybe one feet away jumped to prevent him," spokesman Mohamed Shareef said.
The boy "came in the way and grabbed the knife," Shareef told The Associated Press. "One brave boy saved the president's life."That boy is really brave and he has shown how much love he has for the President. Would you do that for the president of your country?Read more: http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/01/08/maldives.assassination.attempt/index.html
