| Children's Carseats | | Ok here is the situation. My friend is having a baby and she has a carseat that she has when she had her son four years ago.A friend of hers told her that someone couldn't take there child home from the hospital because there car seat was expired or out of date.Is this possible that car seats can become out dated or expired and the maternity ward nurses will subject you from leaving.Thank you for finding out if this is possible..... | |
| | Two young children close in age | | My friend had a baby girl in May 2007 and then she got pregnant again three months later. So she had a baby boy in May 2008. She bought a remarkable looking pushchair. It has three wheels and when her son was a newborn she put him in a cocoon on the back of the pushchair and her little girl sat in the front seat. Then she put her little boy when he reached six months old in the seat on the back of the pushchair and put her daughter in the seat in the front of the pushchair. Do you know two young children close in age?
If so what are their ages?
How does the mother carry them around?

| How many kids can you fit in your car? | | I have a problem! What's new hey? Well, we had 2 cars - a Toyota Lucida (Previa) - 8 seater, and a Landrover Freelander. The Toyota was mine and we had it because we had twins a few years back and wouldn't have been able to fit the baby seats into our regular car at the time (Ford Focus). So, first thing we did was to get rid of our Focus and buy the 8 seater Toyota. Somewhere along the way hubby needed a car to get to work and he decided that he needed a Landrover. Now we live in an area which floods quite often - badly at least once a year for the last 3 years - so a landrover type vehicle is not a bad plan and certainy not a vanity thing (which it seems to be for a lot of people in the UK)[em]happy[/em]Anyway, now that the kids are a little older and not in the big, cumbersome baby seats anymore, we got rid of the Toyota over the summer (2008) and I was left driving the Landrover with the 3 kids squished into the back when we were all in the car. Hubby was using a scooter to work and saving on fuel and parking costs while the gas prices were so high. Now that winter has rolled around and it is freezing here and the roads are very icy most mornings it is quite... | |
| | Do toddler like sitting in the baby chair | | Sometimes we are having our meal in the restaurant together with our kids. Almost every restaurant here we could find baby chairs available there for the convenience of the customers who are bringing their children along. Some parents let their toddlers to sit in the baby chair and let them enjoy eating food themselves whereas the others let their toddlers to sit on their laps and feed the toddlers in the meantime. Occasionally I found toddler crying while sitting in the baby chair and parents tried to pleased him with iced soft drinks. When my kid was still an infant I preferred to let him learning to eat by himself sitting in the baby chair unless the chair looked disgusting and dirty. | my children without a car seat... | | Now I am a huge advocate for car seats, and think that they should ALWAYS be used, no matter what, but last night, after being rescued from a flooding street, with downpoaring rain, I did not transfer our carseat from our stalled out van, into my father in laws car to go a few miles. I know, I was lucky nothing happened, but it was pouring rain (we got 7 1/2 inches in like 30 minutes time) and our van stalled out in the "river" that was once a street. See my previous discussion for more details: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1119081.aspxHave you ever compromised your values for an emergency? Would you have transferred the carseats? (actually only one car seat, our van has built in car seats for the older child, so there was honestly nothing we could have done for him) I am thankful that nothing happened, and am not surprised that on the way home I recieved numerous dirty looks, as I myself have given such looks! | SEATBELT LAWS for children | | I was just wanting to know your thoughts on seatbelt laws,in my state recently they changed it and a child has to be in a booster until they are either 8 years old,or they have to be over 57" tall or over 80lbs to get off of a booster seat .I think this is kind of ridiculous if your kid is less then 57" tall he/she has to be in a booster. I dont agree with this state law at all.
Here is a great site that that you can look at that has all the seatbelt laws for the 50 states.......................

Also if you are from a different country what are your seatbelt laws if any.
| | Babies Beware Airbags | | Small children travelling in the front of seats of cars which are fitted with airbags could be fatally injured by the bag's sudden inflation in the event of accident. US figures show a worrying rise in deaths of children in otherwise minor collisions, with adult seat belts failing to protect them. Babies placed in rear-facing child seats are also at risk. Although manufacturers are working on "smartairbags" that take account of the size of the passenger, children should travel in the backs of cars until these become standard issue.oks, as I myself have given such looks! | Cyclist's. Do You Wish They Would Get Off The Roads Or Not??? | | I am not a lover of cyclists. They seem to think they own the roads and the pavements without a care for the car driver or pedestrian. They never stop at the red light or the pedestrian crossing. They weave in and out of traffic and kick your car if you get too close. They are not insured, but cause accidents the same as car drivers. Also, if our kids have to wear seatbelts in cars how do they get away with putting those unsafe child seats on the back of their bikes or even have their kids sitting on the front with them.I believe in being able to cycle, but with it comes respect for your fellow man and sometimes cyclists are just arrogant and a danger.I am sure there are decent ones out there who respect their fellow driver or pedestrian, but they are few and far between!!!Heres some rules for all you cyclists who forget what to do, lolhttp://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/03.htmWhats your view? | |
| | Child Safety Seats Not Installed Properly | | Many parents are confused about the right way to install a child safety seat despite a rule to simplify the process, a U.S. government agency said.A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration survey said about 40 percent of parents rely on seat belts when installing the car seat, the Insurance Journal said. About 55 percent of parents use the top tether in a vehicle's rear seat to secure their children.NHTSA in 2002 required new vehicles and child seats be equipped with attachments that make them fit together as a key in a lock so a seat belt would not be used. The system, Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, was developed to ensure seats fit snugly and to provide an alternative to using seat belts."LATCH was supposed to simplify child safety seat installation for parents and this study shows that isn't happening," Nicole Nason, NHTSA administrator, said.Even though 55 percent of respondents used the top tether, researchers said "many parents are not yet protecting their children with this technology."More than half of the parents who did not use the upper tether or lower attachments cited a lack of knowledge of the system.
