Do you know, how to use Magnetic compasses???
For me it creates lot of confusions.
Can you read a map?
November 13, 2008 In this day and age of GPS which directs you in the right direction, sometimes the wrong one, it stands to reason that some people have lost the ability to read a map. We rely on technology too much sometimes. If I napped you and dropped you in the woods with nothing but your fear and a compass wrapped inside a map could you find your way out or would you become bear food or one with nature?
What do you think is wrong with the bermuda triangle?
The bermuda triangle has always been a source of mystery to me. Ships sinking, planes disappearing, compasses not working etc has always fascinated me. There are several explanations put forward for these events ranging from alien forces to strange magnetic presence though none can satisfactorily explain all these events. So i say that your guess is as good as mine. I think that there is some powerful magnetic substance under the sea which is causing these accidents. What is your opinion?
Omnia 2... anyone?
I recently got myself a Omnia 2 to replace my old htc. And boy am I impressed with the phone. The more I use it, the more I am falling in love with it.First of all, the OS, windows mobile 6.5 is a much much better improvement over the last windows CE PDA I used. I think that PDA was running on windows mobile 3, if I remember correctly.Second of all, the GUI is so much more responsive than its predecessors. The bigger screen also makes for bigger buttons. And having thick fingers, bigger buttons on the screen really makes typing a breeze! Then the applications. Woo~hoo~~~! I love the new applications that are available today. From navigation tools to compasses to media viewers, you name it, they have it! And the best part of it is?!? Almost all of them can be found FREE!I am definitely in love with my new phone. Two of the apps I loved so much, I wrote about them here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2281773.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2281769.aspxha ha ha... when was the last time you bought a new phone? or anything electronic? And did you fall in love with it even more after you started to use it?
Do you really belive UFO, Bermuda, time hole and stuff like that
Today when i was reading a report of the mysterious stories of Bermuda Triangle in the National Geographic, i was hugely dragged away into more research towards it.Misbehaving of the compasses, the unreasonably sudden disappearance of planes and numerous ships, the suprising coming-back of past time aircarfts and people's mysterious vanishing while leaving the whole ship intact, will you wonder where they are!! So to feed my thrist of truth, i cast nearly 2 hours to search answers to clam down the turbulence in my head. Dr. Ben Clenell's gas theory. The movement of the sea sediments unlocks the methane below, which can one time volumes 70 times as the American's whole year comsumption, the uprising flowing of the methane hugely reduces the density of the water and air that allows no ship or aircraft on earth to escape the devastation, not even a second enough to send out an SOS single. To prove this theory, Dr. Ben Clenell even initiated a drastically large field test by mocking his assumption of the gas emmsion in Bermuda, and surprissingly he made it!! and it's time for you to take his theory, will you? To me, hold on, let's see another theory below. The aliens and time hole...
North, South, East, West..... WTF???? How do people know this????
Have you ever met people that instantly know what compass direction is what? You know the type of people I'm referring too right? "Ah, yep..... As you can see, this house has a North Easterly facing aspect!" How the hell do they know this just by looking around them??? Do they have some inbuilt magnetic field or something??? Yeah mate, sure..... Personally I thought the house was facing North, North East West South myself, but I believe ya![em]w00t[/em]As far as I'm concerned, North is UP, South is DOWN, East is that way, and West is the other way..... Simple really! It also means that if I were lost in a desert, I'm screwed, but whatever. I'll just be sure to only have brief trips into the desert and I'll make sure I never lose sight of the highway![em]thumbup[/em]So what about yourself? Are you one of these smartass human compasses? Or are you like me and as far as you're concerned, anything above head height is North?[em]confused[/em]
Teaching children how to hike
We love to hike and all four of my children are pretty good hikers and know that if they want to see wildlife, they have to walk quietly..Well, yesterday, we took my son and my 2 grandsons hiking and I guess because mom and dad both work and they have no time, they never took their children hiking..We took them on one of the shortest and easiest trails and from what I saw and heard, they need training if they ever want to make it out of the woods let alone see a deer..I talked to my husband, I think that when the kids are here and the weather is mild, we will go across the street where there are many trees and play games like hide and seek, thus making them aware that it isn't just being quiet in your hiding spot, but they should also be quiet while looking for a spot to hide..I also should explain to them what poison ivy looks like, don't want them coming home with any surprises..We also are considering hiking sticks, canteens, and compasses for Christmas so that come next Spring, maybe, just maybe they will be better hikers..What do you think? If you have any suggestions, I will take them, I would love to take them more often, for they did seem to have a lot...
The Hike from Hell
This weekend we went for a hike on the Cave Creek trail. This trail connects to the Pinhoti trail and makes a loop back around to the parking area. The first part of the hike went well. I wrote about it in my last post. The second half of the hike was AWFUL!There is a switch back on the Cave Creek trail. You take it to the connector trail for the Pinhoti and then get on the actual Pinhoti trail and follow it back to the parking area. Well, we made it to where the connector trail was supposed to start and then everything went downhill from there. We saw the first blaze marking the trail. (The first blaze of the whole day by the way; they aren’t good at marking the trails here for some reason.) We followed what we thought was the trail but it wasn’t. We were never really lost because we had the GPS and compasses, but it sure felt like it. It took forever to find the trail again. There were no markings anywhere. We had to hike down the mountain after tromping around on the top for a few hours. I have arthritis and torn cartilage in my knees so this wasn’t fun at all. Every step I took was painful. I had to take a break at one point to eat something because my sugar...
stereotyping vs acknowledging cultural/gender/religious or other differences
I've had these questions on my mind for quite some time. They probably came to me even before I discovered myLot.It's one of those things that you wonder about then it goes away, only to return again.I don't like racism, I don't like bigotry and I certainly don't like gender discrimination. But the truth is, there are differences between the genders. There are cultural differences and there are differences between many groups of people. So my question is this...Are we sometimes overly concerned about being politicaly correct? I am hispanic from my mothers side. There are foods that are common to my culture. There are foods common to other cultures as well. Is it wrong to think of black beans and rice as a common hispanic food?I've heard the term soul food said in a positive manner.People from different regions and races do have different physical traits. Are we supposed to pretend that isn't so?Even men and women of all cultures, in general, have different tendencies, depending on their gender.A friend posted a discussion where he made light of some female stereotypes. Some folks saw the humor in it. Some did not. Everyone is entitled to...
Pirate Master
This is a new reality show. I was just wondering if anyone watched it last Thursday. That was the first episode. Basically what they have done is take a bunch of people and stick them on a ship. They hsve to sail this boat like pirates to specific spots and then go through a series of trials and be the first one to find a tresure chest with money in it. In this first episode they split the crew into 2 teams according to which colour marble they pulled from a bag. The Black team ended up winning because "Jon" the creepy but SMART guy carried them through it. It was a veru close race with both teams at the finish searching through the water for the treasure chest. When they got back to the ship the Host had the black team choose a Captain. Instead of choosing Jon-who was the reason that they had won the chest in the first place- they chose "Joe Don" because (I think) he is a fairly good looking guy (buff lady's man beach type). It was then announced that in the chest that the black team had won, there was $20,000.00!! And Joe Don as Captain got half (people weren't happy). Then the host gave JD a choice, he could share the other half with his team, share it with 2 officers of...
