| | What do you find to be a great insect repellent??? | | Well this winter we had much more snow than usual..All winter here, we grumbled about wanting the nice weather. Everyone couldnt wait til spring![em]thumbup[/em]
Well recently the weather is starting to warm up. One day was even in the 30sc but usually its around 15c...It has been rainy and dreary for days...except yesterday..The sun came out and it was lovely![em]w00t[/em]
I couldnt wait to get out in the garden and start making flower beds and getting ready to plant veggies...I went to the local Nursery and bought lots of plants..
I got home and went to plant them and got swarmed by the dreaded BLACK FLIES!!
Is this what I waited all winter for? I really dislike blackflies. They bite and swarm all around your face.
So now I want to know if you have any good remedies or repellants for these nasty little creatures? I always used to use off insect repellant but hated the taste and smell..Not that I ate it, but putting it near your face, you always seem to taste it!
Do you have any better suggestions? | |

| | Using the best mosquito repellant going...and it ain't deet! | | For many many years, folks have been using deet and citronella to repel flying insects.The loggers on BC's west coast have been using a ladies product for all of the wrong reasons and have been keeping mosquitos and black flies off of them for a long while.And I had known about this wonder product too. But had forgotten it. Then my wife came home with a big bottle of it.That product? Avon Skin-So-Soft bath oil.My wife poured some on a cloth and wiped it straight on. Thus ended the landing of the mosquitos for her. I later put some on and viola... Me too! No mosquitos.In had been feeling like a veritable smorg for flying things, but not now.I think Avon products are available around the world, so if you want insect repellant that isn't as toxic as deet, then this is the ticket. And guys, you will smell so feminine too! But you won't be bugged by mosquitos...And, you moms and dads can rub this on the kids when they are out doors and they will be protected as well, again without risk.For day travel, wet down a cloth with the SSS and place it into a zip lock bag and you can stick it in purse or pocket when you are out in the open to refresh the... | |
| | I've Got Chiggers!! UGH!! | | They're all over both of my legs, more so on my right and they're driving me insane!! Gosh they itch!! I've been putting clear finger nail polish on all the bites and that's when they really squirm!! They're squirming because I'm smothering them to death with the finger nail polish. The polish feels like hard plastic on my skin and even that is driving me insane!! I've learned my lesson!! I won't go into the back yard woods ever again without "OFF!" on me!! Oh no way!! Once is enough for me!! Yeah, hubby got them too but not nearly as bad as I did. I must have an attractive smell to them or I stepped right on their nest. I wonder why they didn't bother me earlier this year? Is it this is the only time they're active? Does anybody know anything about these little boogers? Other than them being like ticks but much smaller and they bury themselves under your skin and itch like crazy all the while making bite welts on my skin, is there anything else I should know about them or even would[i]want[/i] to know? lol | |
| | is there mosquitos in you house? | | It is hot and i usually open door and open the windows to keep air flow. But there are several mosquitos enter and bite me when i am asleep. They are so annoying that I use mosquito tent to defend their attack. I don't like to use anti-mosquito incense or electro-incense. i don't want to be harmed by chmical substance although some one believe they are safe.What about you? xoxoxoxoxoxxo'I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes, and voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby.

OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS:I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really doesn't take much, so it's not as expensive as the can of spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of Days. Don't spray directly on a wood door, but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames and even inside the dog house. During the summer, I don't leave home without it.....Pass it on. ' | |
| | Mosquitoes. Do they leave you alone???? | | I don't know about you but those pesky things don't leave me alone for one minute.
I can be surrounded by many people. They might be wearing perfume, colors that attract mosquitoes, they could even have a sign saying " Mosquitoes, bite me!" But hey, it's me that will get all the bites.
I've hears many reasons for this, but have no idea if they're true or not, all I know is that they always come to me LOL

| | Sunburn Tips | | I got a few great tips on bites to share with you great info and tips on
sunburn to help us all get through summer without suffering. Bits on
bites:A dab of toothpaste any kind on bites, especially mosquito works WONDERS
to relieve the itching.You list the black widow and brown recluse spiders, but you didn't
mention the Hobo Spider. These are very prevalent here in Northwest
Washington and the bites can be severe. Do a google and find out. A lot
of people are unaware of these spiders and mistake them for common house
spiders.My mother always made a paste of baking soda and water and covered the
sting site- you could actually see the area yellow as it drew out the
venom. I still use it on my kids today.A couple of ideas for bites.One of my friends is a nurse, she said to
put meat tenderizer on bites. It works. I have also carried Tea Tree Oil
in my golf bag to use on fire ant bites, and bites of other insects. It
seems to take the sting out of them, also the swelling.A friend of mine had a spot on her side, looked like a giant hive, I got
the Tea Tree Oil (I carry it in a plastic baggie with some Q-tips in
another one in side the bigger one.)... | |
