Doggie First Aid Kits?
Does anyone have a doggie first aid kit at home in case their dog gets hurt or sick?I have a few things in mine, but I wondered what everyone else has in theirs? I found some information online on what some people keep in their's so I thought I'd pass it along.* cotton gauze bandage wrap — 1.5 inch width, 3 inch width * Vet Wrap — 2 inch width, and 4 inch width (4 inch is sold for horses) * Ace bandage * first aid tape * mineral oil (as a laxative) * cotton gauze pads * regular bandaids * cotton swabs or Q-tips * Benadryl * ascriptin (buffered aspirin) * Pepto Bismol tablets * New Skin liquid bandage (useful for patching abrasions on pads) * iodine tablets (if you hike and camp in areas where the stream water may not be safe for consumption with out first treating with iodine or boiling) * oral syringes (for administering liquid oral medicines, getting ear drying solution into ears, etc...very useful!) * needle & thread * safety pins in several sizes * razor blade (paper wrapped for protection) * matches * tweezers * hemostat (useful for pulling ticks, thorns, large splinters, etc) * small blunt end scissors * canine rectal thermometer (get one...
My Kitten Was Snakebit!
My wee son came in telling me the kitten was crying and got in ants and the ants bit him. So I followed him out and I could hear the kitten yowling. I finally located him and knew something must be bad as he is my quiet kittie. I searched him over and could tell it was something with his right front leg, or paw. He bit me when I tried to look. I got the kennel, put him in it to let him calm down and went and washed out the bite really well. He is not yet old enough for his rabies shot. I went back and tried to check the paw again, he was favoring it and he was not happy. He finally let me look and I couldn't see anything to cause it. I then palpated the area and got a pretty good pain response from him. I thought maybe he had been stung by a wasp or ground hornet so I gave him a bit of liquid Benedryl per my Pet First aid book. My friend, who is an EMT, came over about then and we checked him out better. By that time it was starting to swell and I was able to see the marks where the fangs entered the flesh. One was oozing clear yellowish fluid and the other blood. My First Aid for Pets book said that usually if a pet is going to succumb to the...
My dog got jealous...
with my boyfriend! lol. I just can't believe how Tea reacted when he saw my boyfriend walked with me upstairs after dinner. Usually it's her and me. Only her and me. Then now, it's him and me. I find her cute, but I also feel bad for her. She was there. She actually saw us walking towards the stairs and going up because we usually go up together. Now, when she saw my boyfriend and I together, she ignored my call and walked away without looking back. Then when my mother followed us after a few minutes, she told me that Tea walked upstairs with her, which is unusual. Anyhow, it's my pet's first time to feel that way I think. By the way, I uploaded her picture there.
First day to meet her vet...
I took Georgia to her vet this morning. To have her check up on her seizures and weak hind legs. The vet was so nice to her. She gave Georgia a vitamins, for her bones and Vitamin B complex. The visit with the vet went well, but when it's time for Georgia to get her shots, it breaks my heart because she was crying and screaming[em]sad[/em] She also peed maybe it was so painful for her since it was her first time. What was really funny before the visit to the vet was, Toni was the first one to get inside the improvised carrier box which I made last night[em]lol[/em] and Georgia had to follow Toni. They always stick together. So when I took Georgia to the vet this morning, Toni was with her[em]lol[/em] ... she knows how to calm down Georgia whenever Georgia is irritated. My wonderful Toni. How about you? How was your pet's first visit to the vet? Is there something funny that your pet has done before the visit? Please share. Thank you.:)theresa
Pets
I have seen a few Discussions now asking about How to make a mistreated Pet trust you I have been brought up with Dogs and I have always had a Cat or Dog or both Most of mine have been rescue Pets that have been treated bad and abused including my little Fellow Gissi It is not easy but the main ingredients are Your Voice - the Pets go by the tone of your Voice, if the Pet has been abused certain tones will scare them badly, try to keep your Voice as gentle as possible, a quiet as possible, Patients - Do not give up with them, talk to them a lot, slowly start going up to them, treat them, when they come to you do not make sudden movements, but have patience with all of this, if you try to push them to hard it will end in disaster and they will not learn to trust you If there are more People living in the House just one Person work on the Pet first, as it will make them nervous if to many People are involved Talk to them all the time, when you are feeding them, when you give them water, coax them to come out of the hiding places, do not try to force them though, talk to them gently It took me 8 Months to get the Fear out of Gissi and to make him realize no one will hurt...
